The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has issued a strong public warning following a surge in dangerous activities causing damage to critical electricity infrastructure across its operational areas.
According to LEC, recent incidents of bush burning and land clearing have led to the destruction of electric poles, posing a serious threat to the stability of the national power supply. The Corporation also expressed concern over the increasing number of individuals constructing buildings and operating businesses too close to high-tension transmission lines, particularly within restricted safety zones.
LEC emphasized that these actions are extremely hazardous and could result in loss of life, severe injuries, widespread power outages, and costly damage to the electricity network.
The Corporation is therefore urging all residents to: Immediately stop burning bushes near power lines, Avoid construction within designated safety corridors. Refrain from any activity under or around high-voltage infrastructure
This warning affects multiple counties, including Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Margibi, Grand Bassa, and Rivercess.
LEC is calling on the public to remain alert and report any unsafe activities through its customer service hotline. These collective efforts are essential to protect lives and maintain a reliable electricity supply across Liberia.
