The Liberia National Police (LNP) in Maryland County have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a motorcyclist in the Barrobo Statutory District, with three individuals currently under police scrutiny.
According to police reports, the missing motorcyclist, identified only as Obadiah, is a resident of Dugboken District #3 in Maryland County. The incident reportedly occurred while he was transporting passengers to the Juluken #1 gold mining area.
Police disclosed that on January 8, 2026, the Maryland County Detachment received a report involving Obadiah and three individuals identified as Isaac Gwele, Fred Bartoe III, and Ackeel Bartoe. The group was reportedly traveling to the gold mining area in search of better livelihood opportunities to support their families.
Preliminary findings from LNP officers in the interior indicate that on January 5, 2025, Obadiah was contacted in Dugboken to transport two men to the gold mines in pursuit of greener pastures. He later decided to travel with a friend for companionship, intending to complete the trip safely and return home.
However, during the journey, the motorcycle reportedly developed a mechanical fault along the highway. While attempts were being made to repair the motorcycle, Obadiah allegedly ran into nearby bushes without explanation and did not return.
Meanwhile, the three suspects, including Isaac Gwele, are currently in the custody of the Liberia National Police and are expected to be forwarded to court, as the matter is reportedly beyond the police’s jurisdiction.
Police records further indicate that since the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 5, 2025, community members—among them elders and youths—have carried out two separate search efforts in an attempt to locate the missing motorcyclist or recover his body.
