As Tensions Over Unresolved Murder,Violence in Chengbetee Town Rise, Cllr. Koffa Calls for Peace.

As tensions rise over an unresolved murder case involving an unidentified woman in Upper Bolloh District, Grand Kru County District #2 Representative and recently former Speaker of the House of Representatives Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa has called for peace, moderation, and the swift pursuit of justice.

Cllr. Koffa called on the ladies of Upper Bolloh District, Chengbetee Town residents, and people in Electoral District #2 to keep the peace amid growing resentment and annoyance over the matter in a statement issued on Thursday. He confirmed that the community’s demand for justice is legitimate and well-founded while also acknowledging their profound feeling of loss.

“I recognize and share in the pain, anger, and frustration being felt,” Koffa stated. “But resorting to violence, arson, or mob actions will only deepen the crisis and place innocent lives and property at risk.”

The member of the Liberian parliament vehemently denounced the alleged burning of homes and other properties in Chengbetee Town on January 7, 2026. He stressed the necessity for a competent and legal way to settling the problem in order to prevent more disruption and devastation, calling the violence abhorrent and warning that such acts must not be repeated.

Cllr. Koffa urged chiefs, elders, county authorities, the Liberia National Police (LNP), and pertinent security organisations to act quickly, transparently, and responsibly. He underlined that re-establishing public trust requires immediate action, clear communication, and active participation rather than inaction or needless delays.

He encouraged security officials to look into rumours that the key suspect may have escaped from Grand Kru County to Nimba County right away and, if needed, make sure the culprit is brought back to Grand Kru to face due process and responsibility.

“Justice must be properly pursued, and it must be evident to all,” he stressed.

In order to reduce tensions and stop more acts of violence, he also urged county officials and security agencies to collaborate closely with traditional leaders, women’s organisations, and community leaders.

“Grand Kru County deserves peace, justice, and leadership that responds meaningfully to the concerns of its people,” Koffa said, reaffirming his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to restore stability and ensure justice is served impartially.

He urged people to reject division and violence in favour of peace as he called for unity and national responsibility in his closing remarks. Koffa pleaded, “Let’s prioritise Grand Kru County and Mama Liberia above all else.”
