Margibi County’s kickball triumph at the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet has translated into one of the largest private-sector rewards in the county’s recent sports history, as Jeety Rubber LLC and its subsidiary, Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC), disbursed L$550,000 in direct cash bonuses to the victorious team.
The payment fulfills a pre-championship pledge: win the title and receive a substantial reward. Following their victory, each of the 20 players received L$25,000, while L$50,000 was allocated to the technical staff—bringing the immediate championship payout to L$550,000.
Beyond a Promise—A Broader Investment
The latest reward is part of a wider financial commitment by the companies throughout the just-ended county meet. In total, Jeety Rubber and SRC invested L$1.1 million in Margibi’s football and kickball programs.
The kickball team alone accumulated L$860,000 in combined support, including: L$500,000 for winning the championship, L$260,000 for their semi-final victory, L$100,000 as an initial pre-tournament donation.
Meanwhile, the football team received L$100,000 in initial support, L$50,000 for technical staff assistance, and L$100,000 worth of food supplies to aid preparation during the tournament.
Corporate Backing and Community Impact
Speaking during the award ceremony, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, Chief Executive Officer and owner of Jeety Rubber and SRC, described the contribution as part of a long-term commitment to sports development in Margibi County. He emphasized that the companies are proud of the team’s victory and pledged continued support to help the girls defend their title in the next edition of the county meet.
Margibi County Superintendent O. Jay Morris commended the companies for what he termed strong and consistent backing of youth and sports initiatives. According to him, the financial incentives played a critical role in motivating the players to secure the championship.
Players Speak
Team captain Ruth Sonpon, who led the squad to victory in a dramatic shootout, credited the promised reward as a psychological boost ahead of the final match.
“When Mr. Jeety made that commitment, it inspired us to push harder because we knew someone believed in our potential,” she said, adding that the funds will assist in better preparation for the next season and encourage more young girls in Margibi to pursue kickball.
A Statement on Women’s Sports
Beyond the monetary figures, the gesture represents a growing recognition of women’s sports in Liberia. The substantial corporate investment underscores a shift toward incentivizing female athletic excellence and positioning county sports as platforms for youth empowerment and community pride.
With L$1.1 million already injected into local athletics, expectations are rising that Margibi County could become a dominant force in both football and kickball in future competitions.
