Senator Kogar Urges Youth Minister Nominee to Enforce Fair County Representation in Sports Meet

Ganta City, Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar has called on the Minister of Youth and Sports-designate, Cornelia Kruah, to make youth empowerment a top priority and to ensure strict enforcement of county-based participation in the National County Sports Meet.

Speaking during Kruah’s confirmation hearing before the Liberian Senate, Senator Kogar voiced concern about what he described as increasing irregularities in the competition. He criticized the ongoing trend where athletes represent counties other than their own, arguing that such practices undermine the event’s original intent of fostering local pride and unity.

The senator cited instances where players with surnames like Kromah and Flomo reportedly competed for Nimba County, saying these cases go against the true spirit of the games. He urged Kruah to take decisive steps to uphold fairness and authenticity once confirmed.

Senator Kogar also encouraged the nominee to collaborate with competent staff within the Ministry instead of allowing political influence to dictate personnel decisions. He emphasized that Liberia belongs to every citizen, not to a single political group, and called for inclusive and professional governance.

Moreover, Kogar advised Kruah to decentralize youth programs nationwide, rather than limiting them to specific regions. He reminded her that while nominees often make strong commitments during confirmation hearings, their true test lies in implementation.

Concluding his remarks, the senator urged Kruah—herself a native of Nimba County—to lead with honesty and transparency. He noted that any shortcomings in her performance would reflect on the reputation of their county.
