The Legislative Information Service (LIS), with support from Naymote Partners for Democratic Development and the Government of Sweden (Sverige), on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, held a one-day Technical Working Session on Statistical Dashboard Usage in Legislative Information Gathering with staffers, including enrolling and engrossing clerks from both chambersโ€”the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate.

The session, held under the theme โ€œStrengthening Legislative Information Systems through Data Visualization and Evidence-Based Decision-Making,โ€ aimed to enhance the analytical capacity of legislative staff in effectively utilizing statistical dashboards for information management, research, and policy support.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. McCarthy Weh, Director of the Legislative Information Service, welcomed the audience and emphasized the significance of timely, accurate, and easily accessible data for the Legislature’s operations.

โ€œIn todayโ€™s data-driven world, accurate and timely information is central to sound decision-making and effective governance,โ€ Mr. Weh noted. โ€œFor the Legislatureโ€”an institution entrusted with lawmaking, oversight, and representationโ€”reliable data is not just a tool; it is the foundation upon which evidence-based policies and legislative actions are built.โ€

He reaffirmed the LISโ€™s commitment to strengthening the Legislatureโ€™s information management systems and analytical capacity, noting that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize the institution, improve transparency, and integrate data into legislative deliberations and oversight processes.

For his part, the Director of Press and Public Affairs of the House of Representatives, Mr. Robert Haynes, commended the LIS and its partners for organizing the knowledge-sharing session.

He underlined that the House is still dedicated to digital transformation under Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon’s leadership, as shown by the House of Representatives’ recent installation of a digital fingerprint access control system.

Mr. Haynes further stressed that the introduction of the Statistical Data Dashboard will enable the Legislature to provide the public with real-time, data-based updates on legislative activities and performance.

The one-day working session brought together key legislative staff, data officers, and facilitators, all of whom expressed enthusiasm about the initiativeโ€™s potential to promote efficiency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making within the Liberian Legislature.
