Suzhou, China – The Suzhou Union of Liberian Students (SULS) has appointed Scholar
Simeon Sonnie Wiakanty as Chairperson of its Press and Public Affairs Committee. The appointment was confirmed in an official letter issued by SULS President, Sumoewuo Fredrick Gayflor.

Wiakanty’s tenure takes effect immediately and will run until July 31, 2026, pending final confirmation by the Union’s Executive Committee. Under the appointment, he will enjoy all rights and privileges provided for in the Union’s amended 2024 constitution.
In his communication, President Gayflor commended Wiakanty for his “capabilities, integrity, and adherence to the highest standards,” noting that his past achievements reflect “exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to the welfare of scholars.”
The Press and Public Affairs Committee is a key arm of the Union, tasked with managing communications, fostering transparency, and advancing the interests of Liberian students studying in Suzhou City.
“We are confident that your appointment will significantly contribute to the ongoing success of the Suzhou Union of Liberian Students,” President Gayflor affirmed.
SULS is based at Suzhou University of Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province, China, and serves as the umbrella body for Liberian scholars pursuing higher education in the region.
