Unity Party Youth Congress Demands Names of Alleged Government Drug Traffickers

Monrovia, Liberia – August 14, 2025 – The Unity Party National Youth Congress (UPNYC) is demanding that the Deputy Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Mr. Gwee Forkpa, immediately identify government officials he claims are involved in drug trafficking.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s press briefing on August 12, Mr. Forkpa alleged that individuals within all three branches of government – Executive, Legislative, and Judicial – are linked to the illicit drug trade.

The UPNYC described the allegations as a matter of “highest national security concern,” warning that if such claims are true, it means the fight against narcotics is being “sabotaged from within” by the very institutions tasked with protecting citizens.

“This is unacceptable, intolerable, and constitutes a betrayal of the Liberian people,” the youth body stated. “The Liberian people deserve to know the truth. The youth of this country will not stand by while shadowy figures in high offices destroy our future with drugs and impunity.”

The group has given Mr. Forkpa 72 hours to publicly disclose the names of the alleged offenders or face calls for his resignation. Failure to do so, they say, will be viewed as a “reckless and irresponsible” attempt to mislead the public.

UPNYC vowed to mobilize young Liberians in the fight for accountability, warning that anyone—regardless of rank—found to be aiding or profiting from the drug trade must face the full force of the law.

“The time for half-measures is over,” the statement concluded. “The time for truth, justice, and accountability is now.”
