Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has officially confirmed a significant new gold discovery by Gem Rocks Mining Resources in Arthington, Montserrado County.
The announcement follows a recent field verification mission by a high-level technical delegation from the Ministry, conducted as part of the review process for mineral rights applications. The visit was prompted by Gem Rocks’ formal request to transition from its current exploration license to a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA).
A subsidiary of Zodiac Gold, Inc., Gem Rocks has been active in Liberia since 2021, carrying out systematic geological exploration across multiple sites. In addition to Arthington, the company has identified promising gold targets in Ben-Ben, Feh-Feh, Youth Camp, Alasala, and Alasala South, spanning Montserrado and parts of western Liberia.
During the verification exercise, the Ministry’s delegation inspected core samples, trenches, drilled holes, and other exploration infrastructure. The team also reviewed a comprehensive technical presentation by Gem Rocks CEO David Kol, with supporting data from internationally accredited laboratories.
The verification mission was led by Deputy Minister for Operations William S. Hines, Deputy Minister for Planning, Research and Development Fahnseth B. Mulbah, and Assistant Minister for Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research Oliver S. Gbegbe. They were joined by Assistant Minister for Mines Carlos Edison Tingban, Liberia Geological Survey Director Anthony Kullie, Chief Mining Engineer James Smith, and other senior officials.
The Ministry is expected to issue further guidance on the next steps regarding Gem Rocks’ MDA application following the completion of all technical reviews.
