In response to the recent monkeypox outbreak, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a series of preventive measures to safeguard public health, including changes to passport processing services.

According to a release from the Ministry’s Division of Passports, effective Monday, July 21, 2025, all passport services will be offered strictly by appointment only. The new measures are in line with health protocols issued by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) and the Ministry of Health.

Daily passport processing will be limited to 100 applicants, broken down into 30 express applications and 70 regular applications. Appointments must be scheduled during the completion of the online passport application form.

In addition to appointment scheduling, applicants are required to present original copies of all supporting documents, along with photocopies, at the time of processing.

The Division expressed regret for any inconvenience the measures may cause and called for public understanding and cooperation.

“These actions are being taken in the interest of public health and safety,” the statement read. “We encourage everyone to comply accordingly.”

The announcement comes as health authorities intensify efforts to prevent the spread of monkeypox in Liberia.
