Workers at Phebe Hospital in Suakoko District, Bong County, have warned they will shut down the facility starting Wednesday, July 1, if authorities and an investigative committee fail to release findings into their long-standing complaints.
Union President Moses D.N. Davies stated that employees have waited over three months for the report, despite an initial timeline of just 21 days. He criticized the committee for the delay, noting that repeated efforts by the government, Ministry of Health, Civil Service Agency, and local authorities have not resolved the situation.
The conflict, which began in January, involves allegations of ineffective leadership, unequal pay, and poor working conditions. The union is also demanding the removal of three senior officials, including Medical Director Mimi S. Ricks, claiming that earlier promises for their temporary withdrawal were not fully honored.
Davies warned that workers will suspend services if no clear resolution is provided and urged President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Ministry of Health to step in or reassign staff to other public health facilities.
The potential shutdown has raised serious concerns about healthcare access, as Phebe Hospital serves a large population across Bong County and surrounding areas.
As of now, neither the Ministry of Health, hospital administration, nor the investigative committee has issued a public response to the union’s demands or the delay in releasing the report.
