As a prompt response to the need for youth educational empowerment during this two-month School break, ArcelorMittal Liberia has informed the County Administration of Grand Bassa about its plan to provide vacation jobs for students within the company’s affected communities in Nimba, Bong and Grand Bassa Counties.
An ArcelorMittal’s delegation dominated by Community Relation Officer and staff, informed Superintendent Karyou Johnson in a well-attended meeting; that the company Management is prepared to offer Vacation Job to students in Senior High and University, and must be residents of the affected Communities
It is expected that the exercise would kick start in August and conclude in September of this year with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Education playing coordination role.
The County Civil Society Council, Bassa Youth Caucus leadership, President of the Grand Bassa Student Union (GBASU), the County Education Officer, Jefferson Vobah, Harlandsville Township Commissioners, Isaac N. Williams and a representative of the affected communities formed part of the meeting that resolved on the establishment of a vetting committee that will coordinate the Vacation Jobs exercise.
From the presentation, it was initially planned for 200 students to participate across the three Counties, but the outcome of the engagement had placed ArcelorMittal Liberia Management in the position to top up the number to have more beneficiaries as was suggested by Superintendent Karyou Johnson.
The Local Government, Civil Society and Youths institutions and the student Leadership made statements of commendation, vowing their support for its accomplishment.
Meanwhile, financial details and other information about the application will be published on AML Website, Social Media and announced via Community Radio by the Iron Ore-Steel operating company this week.
