University of Liberia Begins Campus Makeover with Graduate School Repaint

The University of Liberia has begun a major facelift of its Graduate School building, launching a repainting project aimed at revitalizing the appearance of one of the institution’s key academic facilities and strengthening the image of Liberia’s premier public university.

The initiative, underway in Monrovia, forms part of the university’s broader infrastructure improvement plan under its strategic agenda for campus renovation, beautification, and modernization.

For years, the Graduate School building had shown visible signs of deterioration, with weather-worn and mold-stained exterior walls that raised concerns among students, faculty members, and visitors. University officials acknowledged that the building’s condition had increasingly contrasted with the institution’s academic reputation, prompting the need for immediate restoration.

The repainting project began with the cleaning of the building’s exterior surfaces, followed by the application of a white primer coat to prepare the walls for their final design. Work has since progressed to the application of new yellow and red exterior paint, significantly transforming the structure’s appearance and giving the building a brighter, more welcoming look.

University administrators say the project reflects the institution’s determination to create a campus environment that matches its academic mission and national importance.

The work is being supervised by Sehmah R. Jallah, Interim Vice President for Administration, and Jeff Walker, Director of the Physical Operations Department, who are overseeing the implementation of the initiative.

Officials have also praised the team of workers carrying out the repainting, noting that their efforts are helping restore pride in the university’s physical environment.

The project has already drawn positive reactions from staff and students working in the building. Jonathan Taylor, Vice President for Graduate Studies, described the transformation as a morale boost for the academic community and a symbol of renewed institutional commitment.

University authorities emphasized that the repainting project is only one component of a broader effort to upgrade campus infrastructure. Plans for additional improvements may be explored as the university continues implementing its development strategy.

The institution also expressed appreciation to the Government of Liberia, including the Liberian Legislature and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, for approving US$6 million in infrastructure funding for the university in the 2026 fiscal year. The funding was endorsed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to support renovation and development projects across the university’s campuses.

As the repainting continues, university officials say the effort represents more than a cosmetic improvement—it signals a renewed push to modernize facilities, strengthen institutional pride, and provide a learning environment worthy of Liberia’s flagship university.
