IMF Launches High-Tech Training Drive to Strengthen Liberia’s Tax System

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) is set to benefit from a major capacity boost as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) rolls out a wide-ranging training and skills development package for its staff. The initiative is expected to enhance institutional excellence, improve revenue performance, and support stronger fiscal governance in Liberia.

In a strategic meeting with LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah and senior management, IMF Resident Representative Joel Chiedu Okwuokei unveiled the newly established Keynes Lab—a modern, high-tech training facility. The lab is equipped with advanced econometric software, high-speed internet, and ergonomic workstations, creating a professional environment tailored for policy-focused and technical learning.

The training program will cover key areas such as macroeconomics, fiscal and monetary policy, public financial management, financial sector policy, climate-related economic risks, inclusive growth, and digital transformation—skills that are essential for effective revenue administration and evidence-based decision-making in today’s economy.

Commissioner General Jallah hailed the initiative as a transformative moment for the LRA and the country. He pledged that the Authority would fully leverage the opportunity and urged department heads and the Human Resource Management Division to carefully coordinate staff participation, ensuring that employees benefit from the training while maintaining strong revenue collection and operational continuity.

Beyond upgrading skills, the initiative will significantly cut overseas training costs by offering world-class learning opportunities within Liberia. This will allow the LRA to channel more resources into critical operational needs while still building a highly competent, tech-savvy workforce.

The collaboration between the IMF and LRA underscores a shared commitment to building resilient public institutions capable of driving fiscal sustainability, strengthening domestic resource mobilization, and supporting national development.
