Monrovia, Liberia – October 13, 2025 — Liberia’s commitment to women’s leadership and peacebuilding takes center stage this week as Madam Esther S. Davis Eyeah David Yango, Executive Director of the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), represents the country at the African Union’s High-Level Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).
The three-day event, scheduled for October 15–17, 2025, in Windhoek, Namibia, brings together heads of state, AU and UN officials, women leaders, and civil society representatives from across Africa. Participants will reflect on three decades of progress since the landmark adoption of UNSCR 1325 in 2000, which formally recognized the essential role of women in preventing conflict, negotiating peace, and rebuilding post-war societies.
Ahead of her departure, Madam Yango expressed gratitude to the African Union Commission for the invitation and reaffirmed Liberia’s legacy as a global symbol of women-led peacebuilding. “Liberia’s women’s movement has long been a living testimony of UNSCR 1325 in action,” she said. “From our history of mobilizing for peace to our ongoing advocacy for justice and accountability, this milestone is a reminder that women’s leadership remains the foundation of sustainable peace.”
During the celebration, Madam Yango will engage in high-level dialogues and panel discussions focusing on the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in Africa, the role of young women in peacebuilding, and strategies for advancing women’s leadership in transitional justice and governance.
Her participation underscores WONGOSOL’s ongoing commitment to strengthening women’s rights and leadership across Liberia’s fifteen counties. The organization continues to push for national and regional policies that deliver tangible improvements in the lives of women and girls at the grassroots level. “WONGOSOL remains steadfast in amplifying the voices of women and girls in peacebuilding processes and in ensuring that Liberia continues to serve as a beacon for women’s leadership on the African continent,” Madam Yango emphasized.
WONGOSOL also extended appreciation to the African Union and Liberia’s development partners for their continued support and collaboration in advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
