Monrovia, August 7, 2025 – The Government and people of Liberia are mourning alongside the Republic of Ghana following a tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several senior Ghanaian government and military officials on Wednesday, August 6.
The fatal incident occurred in Ghana’s Ashanti Region during what was described as a routine domestic operation. Among the victims were prominent national figures, including Minister of Defense Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
In an official statement from the Executive Mansion, Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai expressed profound sorrow and solidarity with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana.
“This devastating loss transcends the borders of Ghana and is felt deeply by the Liberian people,” President Boakai said. “Only days ago, Minister Boamah graced our Independence Day celebrations with warmth, solidarity, and the unmistakable spirit of African brotherhood.”
President Boakai emphasized the historic and enduring ties between the two West African nations, describing the fallen officials not only as national leaders but as brothers and partners in regional progress
“Liberia mourns alongside Ghana. We grieve not only the loss of leaders, but of cherished brothers,” the President added. “May their service continue to inspire generations to come.”
Ghanaian authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash, as the country comes to terms with the loss of key figures in its defense and environmental sectors.
Liberians from across the country have taken to social media and community platforms to offer condolences, reaffirming the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity that unite the two nations in both celebration and sorrow.
