From Training to Careers: AML Converts 56 Young Liberians into Permanent Workforce

ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has taken another significant step toward strengthening Liberia’s skilled labor force by offering permanent employment to 56 graduates of its Training Academy, transforming years of technical training into long-term career opportunities.

The newly recruited employees, all Liberian nationals, successfully completed intensive vocational and technical training programs organized through the company’s Training Academy. Their transition into full-time positions represents a major achievement in AML’s ongoing effort to develop local talent and reduce dependence on foreign technical expertise within the country’s mining and industrial sectors.

The graduates specialize in a range of critical industrial disciplines, including plant fitting, electrical installation, boilermaking, mechanical engineering, and other technical trades that are essential to the company’s operations. Their employment will see them directly involved in supporting mining production, maintenance activities, and other operational functions across ArcelorMittal Liberia’s facilities.

Speaking during the induction ceremony, AML Chief Executive Officer Michiel Van Der Merwe encouraged the young professionals to use the knowledge and practical experience gained through their training to make meaningful contributions to their careers, the company, and the nation.

“Take the knowledge and execute it to bring value to the company, to Liberia, and to yourselves,” Van Der Merwe told the graduates.

The latest employment milestone highlights the growing impact of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s investment in human capital development. Through its Training Academy, the company has consistently provided young Liberians with industry-relevant skills, helping to create a pipeline of qualified professionals capable of meeting the demands of the country’s expanding industrial and mining sectors.

Company officials described the recruitment of the 56 graduates as more than just a hiring exercise. They said it demonstrates the effectiveness of structured technical education programs in creating sustainable employment opportunities while supporting broader national development goals.

Over the years, hundreds of young Liberians have benefited from AML’s training and capacity-building initiatives, many of whom have gone on to secure careers within the company and other sectors of the economy. The program has become one of the company’s flagship contributions to workforce development, providing participants with hands-on experience, technical expertise, and professional growth opportunities.

Industry observers note that investments in vocational and technical education remain critical to Liberia’s economic future, particularly as the country seeks to expand its industrial base and increase local participation in large-scale mining and infrastructure projects.

For the 56 newly employed graduates, the transition from trainees to permanent staff members marks the beginning of a new chapter. It provides not only stable employment but also the opportunity to contribute directly to Liberia’s economic growth while building long-term careers in specialized technical fields.

The move also reinforces ArcelorMittal Liberia’s broader commitment to local content development, youth empowerment, and job creation. By prioritizing the recruitment and advancement of Liberian professionals, the company continues to play a key role in developing the skilled workforce needed to support national development and industrial transformation.

As the new employees assume their responsibilities, their success serves as a powerful example of how investment in education, skills training, and workforce development can create lasting opportunities for young people while helping to drive economic progress across Liberia.
