Monrovia, Liberia โ€“ July 29, 2025 โ€“ The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Investment & Concession and Transport has called on the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM) to attend an important hearing on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the Speakerโ€™s Conference Room at the Capitol Building.

This hearing is part of the Committeeโ€™s ongoing investigation into the concession agreement recently signed between LTM and the Ministry of Transport. Lawmakers want to clarify the legal and operational details of the deal and address concerns about its possible effects on Liberiaโ€™s transport system.

Besides LTM, other key agencies are also required to attend. These include the Liberia National Police (LNP), the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Justice, and a group of concerned employees from the Transport Ministry. The Committee says their input is essential to fully understand what the concession means for the government and the people of Liberia.

Before the hearing, Committee members stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in handling such agreements. They said calling multiple stakeholders shows how important this issue is, especially regarding road safety, traffic management, and the rights of citizens and transport workers.

โ€œWe are committed to carefully reviewing every part of this concession for the benefit of the Liberian people,โ€ the Committee said in a statement. โ€œWe need full cooperation from everyone invited to help us understand the terms, legal status, and wider impact of this agreement.โ€

The deal between the Ministry of Transport and LTM has sparked debate recently among politicians and civil society groups. Some transport unions and workers have expressed worries about higher costs, changes in how traffic rules are enforced, and effects on current law enforcement teams. On the other hand, supporters believe the agreement could make traffic management more efficient and improve road safety compliance.

The Committee stressed that its job is not just to check legality and fairness but also to protect the publicโ€™s interest. โ€œThis is not about politics; itโ€™s about making sure Liberia signs agreements that are clear, fair, and sustainable,โ€ the statement added.

The July 31 hearing is expected to be crucial, with lawmakers seeking answers about the funding, management, and accountability of the concession. With the Liberia National Police and Ministry of Justice involved, the discussion will likely cover enforcement powers and how responsibilities are shared between public and private parties.

The Committee ended by reaffirming its dedication to a fair and open review process. It called on all invited parties to attend as planned and provide full information during the discussions.
