Pay Raise or Turning Point? Government Quadruples Engineers’ Salaries to Boost National Development

Abraham Godsend Kromah has praised the Liberian government for what he describes as a transformative move to significantly improve the welfare of Resident Engineers across the country.

In his remarks, Kromah highlighted the recent salary increase from US$250 to US$1,000 for engineers serving in all fifteen counties, calling it a long-overdue recognition of their contributions. He emphasized that for years, many engineers worked under difficult conditions with low pay, despite playing a vital role in national infrastructure and development.

“This bold and timely decision demonstrates a strong commitment to valuing professionalism, technical expertise, and the critical role engineers play in national development,” Kromah stated.

He credited President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for supporting policies aimed at strengthening public institutions and improving the conditions of Liberian professionals. Kromah also commended Minister R. Layfette Giddings for his leadership, along with Deputy Minister for Technical Services D. Prince Tambah, whom he described as instrumental in driving the initiative forward through strong advocacy and technical insight.

In addition, he acknowledged the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, led by Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan II, for backing the salary adjustment as part of broader efforts to enhance government performance and service delivery.

Kromah stressed that the increase goes beyond financial benefits, describing it as a strategic investment in improving accountability, infrastructure quality, and overall national progress. According to him, better-paid and motivated engineers are more likely to deliver efficient supervision and execution of development projects across Liberia.

He expressed hope that the move will inspire similar reforms aimed at empowering skilled professionals in other sectors.

“Your hard work, sacrifice, and dedication are finally being recognized,” Kromah said in congratulating Resident Engineers nationwide.
