Liberia Moves to Establish National Traceability System for Cocoa and Coffee to Meet Global Standards

Monrovia, Liberia – September 5, 2025 – The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to create a national traceability system for the country’s cocoa and coffee sectors, a move aimed at safeguarding Liberia’s place in the global market amid tightening international trade regulations.

The system, once activated, will ensure every cocoa and coffee farm is registered and every crop tracked from its origin to export, meeting the stringent requirements of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The regulation, which demands proof that commodities are not linked to deforestation, poses significant risks for countries unable to demonstrate full compliance.

To address this, DaVinci Intel has designed a platform, POLIPUS Agritracce 360, a digital solution capable of tracing cocoa and coffee across Liberia’s producing regions. A delegation from the firm met with LACRA’s senior management on Wednesday to present the platform’s features.

LACRA Acting Director General Dan Saryee expressed optimism about the innovation, calling the DaVinci system potentially the “best solution” to Liberia’s traceability challenges. He noted that adopting such technology would not only prevent the rejection of Liberian commodities abroad but also strengthen the long-term viability of the country’s agricultural exports.

In addition to exploring the new system, LACRA convened a one-day stakeholder engagement with exporters to discuss compliance with the EUDR and other emerging international regulations. The forum served as an avenue for dialogue on strategies to protect farmers, sustain exports, and ease the transition into stricter oversight.

Saryee outlined measures his administration is introducing to reduce burdens on farmers and exporters, including the digitalization of regulatory processes and the activation of a mobile money payment platform to simplify transactions in rural areas.

The initiative is widely seen as a proactive step to modernize Liberia’s cocoa and coffee industries, increase transparency, and align the country with international partners. By prioritizing compliance and technological innovation, LACRA hopes to assure global buyers that Liberian commodities meet the highest environmental and ethical standards.
