Senator Kogar Issues Conditions for Staying with Vice President Koung

The political relationship between Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung might be facing a serious challenge. Senator Kogar’s political advisor, Armstrong Gobac Selekpoh, has laid out several conditions that must be met for their partnership to continue.

After Senator Kogar’s recent interview, Selekpoh stated that the senator is willing to stay allied with the Vice President, but only if a list of “non-negotiable demands” is accepted within 30 days.

Selekpoh said that since the interview, many senior Nimbaians at home and abroad have contacted the senator asking for clarity about his political future. He assured that Kogar wants to keep working with the Vice President, but only if these conditions are met:

The Vice President must give up leadership of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) to Senator Kogar. Kogar must be appointed Chair of the Nimba County Legislative Caucus immediately. The MDR account needs to be funded with $100,000 to support a party convention and restructuring.

At least four new pickup trucks should be provided for party work. Ten presidential appointments, including one on the ArcelorMittal Board, should go to Team Kogar.

$75,000 should be allocated right away for Kogar’s “thank-you tour” in Nimba, Gbi, and Doru, along with repairs to Camp #1 road in Gbi. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) must guarantee that Kogar and the Nimba Caucus make decisions about the county’s future without interference from the Vice President.

Senator Kogar should be recognized as the “political godfather of Nimba,” a title once held by the late Prince Y. Johnson. A reconciliation committee led by Kogar should be set up to unite Nimba, with $150,000 allocated for its work.

Selekpoh warned that if these demands are not met within 30 days, Senator Kogar will leave the alliance and start his own political party.

This statement highlights growing political tensions in Nimba, a county seen as key in Liberia’s national politics.
