Beyond the Pitch: Officials Join Lone Star as Liberia Heads to Sierra Leone for Crucial Friendlies

Liberia’s national football team, the Lone Star, has hit the road to Sierra Leone—not just with players and coaches, but with a broad delegation of football officials and government-linked figures—underscoring the importance attached to the upcoming international friendlies.

The team departed early Friday for Bo City by road ahead of a scheduled clash with Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars on Saturday. The delegation is led by Liberia Football Association (LFA) Executive Committee Member Chris Weah, with support from Montserrado Sub-Association Chairman Melton Yoko.

Also traveling with the squad are key figures including Lone Star Mobilization Chairman Reverend Luther Tarpeh, LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh, Deputy Director for Operations Erick Ceekay Sayee, along with sports journalists and other stakeholders.

The first match in Bo will be followed by a return fixture on Tuesday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, giving both teams a chance to test strategies on home and away grounds.

These friendlies are part of broader preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Liberia is set to compete in Group K alongside Mali, Cape Verde, and Rwanda, while Sierra Leone will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Zimbabwe in Group E.

With both nations using the matches to fine-tune their squads, the encounters offer more than routine competition—they serve as an early test of readiness ahead of a demanding qualification campaign.
