Senator Duncan Accuses Weah and Boakai of Driving Liberia’s Hardship

Senator Crayton Oldman Duncan of Sinoe County has issued a blunt and critical statement, holding both former President George Weah and current President Joseph Boakai responsible for the persistent economic struggles facing Liberians.

He made these remarks while delivering a keynote address at a large fundraising event hosted by the Liberian community in Rwanda.

Addressing Liberians living and studying in Rwanda, Senator Duncan compared the two administrations, arguing that the corruption associated with the previous government is continuing under the current one.

He stated that the same questionable practices seen during Weah’s presidency are now being repeated under Boakai’s leadership.

The senator highlighted what he described as a pattern of leaders enriching themselves while ordinary citizens remain impoverished. He pointed out that former President Weah constructed expensive duplexes after taking office, and claimed that President Boakai is now building a costly modern facility in Lofa County.

Duncan also criticized political allies surrounding national leaders, saying many fail to speak honestly about the realities citizens face, choosing instead to remain silent.

He questioned why Liberia continues to experience widespread poverty despite its abundant natural resources.

As part of his argument, he referenced major companies such as Bea Mountain Mining Company in Grand Cape Mount County and ArcelorMittal Liberia, noting that although these corporations extract significant mineral wealth and generate substantial revenue, local communities and the broader population still lack basic services and live in poor conditions.

His speech resonated strongly with the audience, drawing applause from many who agreed that there is a serious imbalance between the country’s wealth and the living standards of its people.

Senator Duncan concluded by emphasizing that without genuine accountability and transparency in governance, meaningful improvement in the lives of Liberians will remain out of reach.
