Minister Giddings Conducts Comprehensive Inspection of Montserrado Road Projects, Flags Delays on Key Route

Monrovia, Liberia — Minister of Public Works Roland Layfette Giddings has launched his first official infrastructure inspection tour of 2026 in Montserrado County, focusing on ongoing road construction projects and evaluating their progress. The tour highlights the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring quality execution and timely completion of critical county-wide infrastructure initiatives.

The inspection occurs three months after the Ministry set October 15, 2025, as the official start date for all civil works nationwide, directing contractors to strictly follow agreed schedules and maintain quality standards. The tour served as a key checkpoint to assess compliance and gauge actual progress on the ground.

During the exercise, Minister Giddings and his technical team visited fifteen project sites across Montserrado County. These included major road and bridge works on Bushrod Island, Brewerville, Dixville, the New Georgia–Bassa Town Road connecting Caldwell, Chicken Soup Factory Road, SKD Boulevard, the East and West Overpass Bridges along Tubman Boulevard, the Peace and Paco Islands link to SKD Boulevard, Allison Street connecting to Old Road, and Soul Clinic Road, among others.

Minister Giddings expressed general satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at most sites, particularly highlighting the significant progress on the overpass bridges along Tubman Boulevard. He described the developments as encouraging and reflective of strong engineering practices and adherence to required standards.

However, he raised concerns over delays on the Chicken Soup Factory Road. Representatives of QE24, the contractor handling the project, assured the Minister that pavement works are expected to begin by mid-February 2026.

The tour concluded in Central Monrovia with observations of ongoing large-scale pothole rehabilitation. Minister Giddings reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to close oversight, emphasizing that contractors will be held accountable for meeting timelines and quality benchmarks to ensure durable and efficient road infrastructure for Liberians.
