Kakata, Margibi County — The Chairman of the Margibi Sports Association (MSA), Mr. Willie, has strongly condemned the decision of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to suspend members of the Margibi Sports Association over allegations of fraud linked to an alleged match-fixing incident.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Willie questioned the credibility and fairness of the LFA’s decision, expressing doubt that any thorough, impartial, and substantive investigation was conducted before the sanctions were imposed. He argued that the alleged offense involves a transaction that, by its nature, should have included both a giver and a receiver, yet only officials from Margibi County were sanctioned.
According to Mr. Willie, the decision raises serious concerns about bias and selective justice. He claimed that the outcome of the investigation appears politically motivated, pointing to the fact that Mr. Cassell Kuoh, a presumptive candidate for the LFA presidency, is known to enjoy support from the Margibi Sports Association.
The MSA chairman further called on other county football associations to closely follow developments surrounding the alleged match-fixing incident involving Margibi and Grand Kru counties, which occurred during last Wednesday’s match in the ongoing National County Sports Meet.
“It has been alleged that the Chairman of the Margibi Sports Association accepted US$300 from the Grand Kru County Development Superintendent following the recent 0–0 draw,” Mr. Willie stated. “However, despite these allegations, only Margibi County has been suspended, which is unfair and raises questions about the integrity of the process.”
Mr. Willie disclosed that the Margibi Sports Association has formally notified the Ministry of Youth and Sports, officials of the National County Sports Meet, and relevant boards and committees, calling for an independent and prompt investigation into the matter.
He described the LFA’s decision as detrimental to the interests of the people of Margibi County, emphasizing that football administration must be guided by fairness, transparency, and respect for due process rather than sentiment or political considerations.
“Fair play must always take precedence if we truly want to promote and protect the integrity of the game,” he said.
Mr. Willie also announced that the Margibi Sports Association is planning a full press conference in the coming days to further address the allegations, respond to the LFA’s decision, and present its position to the public and the football community.
