Tubmanburg, Bomi County – August 7, 2025 – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has been honored and gowned by the Bomi Rural Women in recognition of his leadership and service to the nation. The gowning formed part of a series of events marking the Speaker’s official visit to Bomi County.
The day’s activities began at the Oscar Romero School for the Deaf in Kondeh Community, Tubmanburg, where Speaker Koon, accompanied by Hon. Jah-Kpakpa Obediah Varney, Representative of Senjeh District, met with local leaders, educators, and residents.
In his remarks, Speaker Koon pledged to ensure that the school is included in the National Budget to enhance operations and improve learning conditions for students. He also announced plans to invite the school’s head to the upcoming Mano River Union (MRU) Parliamentary Assembly in Côte d’Ivoire, noting that the institution—established through the MRU—symbolizes regional cooperation.
Later, the Tubmanburg Rural Women Structure hosted a colorful welcome program at the Bomi Women Center on Tubman Avenue. The event featured cultural performances, remarks from women leaders and local dignitaries, and the symbolic presentation of a traditional gown to the Speaker.
In his acceptance speech, Speaker Koon expressed deep appreciation for the honor, describing it as a testament to the unity and partnership between the Legislature and communities across Liberia. He praised the women of Bomi for their contributions to development, peacebuilding, and economic empowerment.
The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including Hon. Miatta A.K. Monger, Gender Coordinator for Bomi County; Madam Ernestine Vincent, President of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA); Hon. J. Obediah K. Varney, Representative of Senjeh District; Hon. Edwin E. Dorley, Superintendent of Bomi County; Madam Eva M. Cassell; and other local leaders.
Speaker Koon extended gratitude to the people of Bomi County for their warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing community empowerment and national development.
