Monrovia, Liberia – August 7, 2025 — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has praised Liberians, especially the youth, for their active role in the recent nationwide protest against drug abuse under the #SayNoToDrug campaign.
In a public statement, Speaker Koon described the peaceful march as a strong display of unity and civic responsibility. He applauded the young people for taking a brave stand against the rising problem of drug trafficking and substance abuse affecting the country.
“The large turnout shows that more people are aware of the dangers drugs pose to individuals, families, and Liberia’s future,” the Speaker said. “Our youth have proven they understand these challenges and are ready to lead the fight to protect their communities.”
He called the protest more than just a demonstration—it’s a national call to action, giving a voice to a generation determined to end the drug problem. “This movement brings hope. It shows that we will not let drugs ruin the dreams and potential of our country,” Speaker Koon stressed.
The Speaker also promised that the Legislature will work hard to pass stronger anti-drug laws, improve rehabilitation programs, and support youth development efforts. He highlighted the need for a complete approach involving enforcement, education, and economic opportunities to tackle the issue effectively.
Koon urged everyone to keep supporting the #SayNoToDrug campaign and stay alert to protect their communities from drug threats. “We must all come together—community by community—to overcome this problem and build a stronger, healthier Liberia.”
As the nation unites behind this growing movement, Speaker Koon’s words remind everyone of the urgent and shared responsibility to fight drug abuse across Liberia.
