Rev. Dr. Jerry P. Kulah Gets New Portfolio

—-appointed as Superintendent of Global Methodist Church (GMC)

The Grain Coast Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church (GMC) has appointed Rev. Dr. Jerry P. Kulah as its first conference Superintendent in Ganta City Nimba County.

The conference, which began on Wednesday July 9 2025, brought together congregants, representing 11 counties, with most of the participating members coming from Nimba and Margibi.

At the climaxed of the GMC’s first convening conference in Ganta City, Nimba County, Rev. Dr. Kulah I, was appointed as its first Superintendent to lead, followed by an appointment and assignment of many other ministers.

The Liberia Conference is headed by Bishop John Pena Auta, Presiding Bishop, Grain Coast Annual Conference, Global Methodist Church and based in the Republic of Ghana.

In administrative structural, The GMC have six districts, Nimba have three, Margibi two and Montserrado one, while the rest of the counties with the exception of Lofa, Bomi, Cape Mount and Gbarpulu are circuits, this means that they donot have the population to be called district.

Under the United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC), Nimba was divided into two districts; Gompa District and Tappita District, but  for the LAC/GMC is divided Nimba into three districts; Mount Nimba North – Central District, Mount Nimba East District and Mount Nimba Northeast District.

The next county to Nimba is Margibi, which has two districts; Mt. Gibi Northwest and Mt. Gibi East District, Montserrado has one district known as Christopolis District.

It may be recalled early this year, at the level of the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church doctrinal crisis hit the church thus leading to forming the Global Methodist Church.

After half a year of breaking away, the newly established denomination boasted of having about 150, 000 members, over 24 ministers and hoping to double the numbers of memberships by next year.

Since the establishment GMC as a broke fashion of the UMC, this is their first major conference be held under a very peaceful atmosphere, with foreign visiting guests from Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea, Zimbabwe the USA, Sierra Leone and among others.

Bishop Sam B. Oroge, Bishop of Apostolic Shepherd was among the sister churches from Liberia attending the conference.

The conference theme is ‘Growing Christian Disciples for the Transformation of the Church and Society’ from text Matthew 28: 19 and II Corinthians 5; 17.

The conference came down with several kinds of resolutions, but the key among the resolutions are four ministerial focus in line with the Grain Coast Annual Conference, including evangelism, Church Planting, Discipleship and self-sustainability.

For self – sustainability, the church projected about US$ 300k as budget for the next six months, beginning August to next year February, which was resoluted as the month of their annual conference (also in line with UMC)

However, Rev. Kulah, upon his appointment as Liberia Conference Chairperson also made his own appointments affecting churches and institutions, leaving out Ganta United Methodist Hospital and Nuesing College.

For the school, Rev. James Kologblee was appointed as principal of the Global Methodist School as they called it, annoying Bishop Quire appointment of Mr. Zawolo Zuagele.

Rev. Ebenezer Belleh was appointed as superintendent of Mt. Nimba North – Central District, which was once called Gompa District under the UMC.

Rev. Kulah said the entire properties under former Gompa District of the UMC belong to the GMC because the UMC could not hold onto the agreement between the locals and missionary Harley.

He also said the title of the property in question does bear UMC, and it was because the UMC lost the case at the eighth Judicial Circuit Court.

He also argued that the GMC is not after properties; rather they are after making disciples, but if the congregation of the UMC breakaway and come with their properties/church, they will embrace them.

Despite claiming the ownership of the UMC properties, the conference was held at the campus of Riverview International Christian College of Dr. Sei Bour, other than the Methodist Gymnasium which is usually used by the Liberia Annual Conference of the UMC.

Briefing the press after the conference, Rev. Kulah said the reason they stay out of the Gymnasium is due to leakages and other dilapidated conditions.
