President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has expressed deep appreciation to Liberians both at home and in the diaspora for what he described as an “overwhelming display of joy, unity, and nationalism” during the nation’s 178th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
In a heartfelt message posted to his official Facebook page, President Boakai extended “warm patriotic greetings” to Liberians worldwide, noting that the enthusiasm and optimism demonstrated this year marked a turning point in the nation’s journey toward peace, unity, and renewal.
Liberians Worldwide Celebrate with Pride
According to the President, the outpouring of patriotism was not confined to Liberia alone but echoed across the globe. He highlighted jubilant Independence Day celebrations in several U.S. cities as well as in Japan, Canada, Australia, Egypt, and other nations with large Liberian communities.
“These were not mere celebrations,” President Boakai stated. “They represented a profound expression of renewed faith, national pride, and a collective commitment to a new Liberia. What I saw and felt was the rekindling of our belief in what our country is capable of becoming.”
The President added that the record-setting level of participation was a strong affirmation of the confidence Liberians hold in the nation’s current direction under his administration.

While acknowledging the parades, ceremonies, and speeches that characterized the occasion, President Boakai emphasized that this year’s Independence Day carried a more profound message: Liberians everywhere are united by a shared dream of peace, dignity, and national renewal.

“I do not pretend to have all the answers, and I acknowledge the challenges we face. But I remain firmly committed to leading with integrity, serving with responsibility, and dedicating myself to the path of renewal and sustainable development,” President Boakai affirmed.
He praised the resilience of Liberians, noting that despite enduring years of national difficulties, the people have once again demonstrated their unshakable strength and determination to move forward.
Engaging the Diaspora for Development
A significant portion of the President’s message was directed toward the Liberian diaspora, whom he described as vital partners in shaping the nation’s future. He announced that the Office of Diaspora Affairs has been strengthened and reaffirmed plans to host a National Diaspora Conference in Washington, D.C., this September.
“This gathering will be a vital platform to ensure your voices are heard and integrated into Liberia’s long-term development agenda,” he explained, urging Liberians abroad to bring their skills, experiences, and resources to bear in advancing the nation’s growth.
A New Spirit of Nationalism Emerging
President Boakai observed that the country is witnessing the rise of a renewed sense of nationalism, with citizens increasingly embracing their shared destiny.
“We are gradually casting off the weight of past despair and replacing it with a forward-looking confidence,” he said. “We are shedding off our trademark indifference and withdrawal and instead reengaging our fellow citizens, our communities, and our nation. Indeed, Liberia is rising, and this is our time.”
A Call to Action for Every Liberian
Looking ahead, the President called on Liberians to seize the momentum created by this year’s Independence celebrations and translate it into concrete actions that will transform the nation.
“The weeks and months ahead must not be ordinary,” he urged. “They must be filled with deliberate actions that bring us closer to reconciliation, that strengthen our economy, and that bring dignity to every Liberian household.”
He encouraged citizens to reconcile differences, create economic opportunities, pursue entrepreneurship, and explore alternative sources of income as pathways to building a stronger, more prosperous Liberia.

Reiterating his administration’s vision of inclusive development, President Boakai pledged to build a nation that leaves no one behind, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or creed.

In conclusion, President Boakai invited Liberians to gather in various places of worship on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, for a day of national prayer. He said the prayers would focus on healing, reconciliation, unity, and the continued protection and progress of the Republic.
