Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – Hon. P. Maxwell Vah, former Assistant Minister for American Affairs, has launched a scathing attack on Liberia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Magdalene Dagoseh, accusing her of using Grand Bassa County as a political fallback and treating it as a stepping stone for her personal political ambitions.
Hon. Vah announced over the phone on Buchanan’s radio Magic that he would not allow himself or the people of Grand Bassa to be used as a “political condom or political utility vehicle” by political candidates.
In the opinion of Vah, Minister Dagoseh’s recent initiatives in Grand Bassa are motivated not by genuine concern for development, but by an apparent intention to position herself for a future senatorial candidacy.
“She spent years in government and never thought about developing Bassa,” Vah told reporters. “She is suddenly developing duplexes across the county due to her political ambition. That story must shift.
The former assistant minister also questioned the source of the minister’s growing wealth, noting that Dagoseh has been Commerce Minister for less than a year, with an estimated take-home salary of $5,000, and has reportedly built duplexes in Grand Bassa County in that time.
“To have duplexes in less than one year raises serious concerns,” Vah said, adding that the Unity Party-led administration told the Liberians that there would be “no business as usual,” but reality shows otherwise.
Vah accused politicians of abusing common individuals’ limited access to education, viewing it as a vulnerability and manipulating them for political advantage.
“Some politicians feel our people are not educated, so they ride on that weakness,” he told me. “Political fakery is taking over Grand Bassa, and our people must be very careful.”
He also questioned Minister Dagoseh’s recent affinity with the county.
“When did Magdalene Dagoseh realise she is from Bassa?” Vah asked. “When was the last time she contributed to Bassa?” She now wants to be a senator, or they want to showcase her as Bassa’s ‘new face’. “That is what is causing division.”
Hon. Vah emphasised that his dissatisfaction with the Commerce Minister stems from what he perceives as hypocrisy and opportunism, claiming that her recent acts of compassion in the country are political manoeuvring rather than genuine development initiatives.
knowing she has an internal motive to become the next senator of Grand Bassa County, she is now coming with what she calls political generosity,” he told me. “Our people continue to make the same old mistakes because politicians believe we are limited in thinking and they use that to our detriment.”
He closed by advising Grand Bassa residents to be watchful, warning them not to be fooled by what he described as abrupt gestures motivated by concealed political goals rather than long-term commitment to the country’s prosperity.
