Monrovia, August 6, 2025 – The National Youth Wing of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has demanded the immediate suspension of the party’s political leader, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, and his former running mate, Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpahwolo. The group accuses the two senior figures of corruption, misconduct, and creating divisions within the opposition party.
In a press conference held Wednesday, the Youth Wing unveiled a 10-count charge sheet alleging that the duo has engaged in financial mismanagement, nepotism, misuse of public resources, and suppression of dissenting voices within the LPP.
Allegations Against Gongloe and Yarkpahwolo
Reading the statement, Youth Wing Secretary General Comrade Robert R. Wherboe, Jr. claimed that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where Cllr. Gongloe reportedly serves as a consultant, is being exploited to advance partisan activities.
“The EPA, under the influence of Cllr. Gongloe, is allegedly being used as a political tool to sponsor partisan activities and reward loyalists, in violation of its mandate and the principle of neutrality in public service,” Wherboe said.
Among the major accusations are:
- Financial Mismanagement: Campaign funds raised in the LPP’s name during the last elections remain unaccounted for, with no financial report presented to party members since then.
- Nepotism: Senior positions at the EPA have allegedly been filled with family members and close associates of Gongloe and Yarkpahwolo, sidelining other qualified party loyalists.
- Factionalism: The duo has been accused of dividing the party and suppressing opposing views ahead of the 2029 general elections.
“Freedom of speech is under threat in our party,” the statement noted. “Any member who disagrees with their 2029 political agenda faces marginalization and retaliation.”
The Youth Wing also denounced what it called continued support by the pair for suspended LPP Chairman J. Yanqui Zaza, who was earlier removed for constitutional violations.
Youth Wing Calls for Action
Describing the actions of Gongloe and Yarkpahwolo as “a betrayal of the party’s founding principles,” the Youth Wing demanded swift intervention by the LPP’s National Executive Committee.
“The time has come for bold and decisive leadership,” said Comrade Abraham Corneh, Chair of the Youth Wing. “We must uphold the constitution and restore the credibility of our party. We will not remain silent in the face of injustice and internal decay.”
The Youth Wing called for an immediate suspension of the accused leaders and a transparent investigation into the allegations to safeguard the party’s integrity.
Uncertain Party Future
The LPP’s National Executive Committee has yet to issue a formal response to the Youth Wing’s demands. Political observers warn that the internal conflict could deepen fractures within the LPP, one of Liberia’s leading opposition parties, as it prepares to challenge for power in the 2029 elections.
Analysts also note that the outcome of this internal dispute could significantly impact the party’s credibility and ability to rally support nationwide.
For now, the Youth Wing’s stance highlights growing tensions within the LPP and raises questions about how the party will navigate mounting internal pressure while positioning itself as a viable alternative to the ruling establishment.
