Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian Senate on Thursday, August 14, signed a Book of Condolence in memory of the late Minister of State, Hon. Sylvester M. Grigsby, a veteran statesman and seasoned diplomat who passed away on August 9, 2025.
The ceremony, held at the Executive Mansion, brought together President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., Senate President Pro Tempore Hon. Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, members of the Liberian Senate, senior government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps.
President Pro Tempore Lawrence described Minister Grigsby as “a true leader, a consummate diplomat, and an international statesman who worked tirelessly to make Liberia and the world a better place.”
In its official message, the Senate extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Executive Branch of government, the diplomatic community, and all Liberians mourning what it described as “an irreparable loss.” The Senate also reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the values the late Minister represented — leadership, service above self, and a dedication to national unity and progress.
A Distinguished Career
Minister Grigsby’s career in public service spanned decades, during which he held several high-profile positions, including Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Minister of State Without Portfolio, Superintendent of Sinoe County, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
As Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, he earned a reputation as a steady and principled administrator, playing a key role in the highest corridors of national leadership. In the diplomatic arena, he was instrumental in shaping Liberia’s foreign policy, strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties, and representing Liberia’s interests on the global stage.
Colleagues and dignitaries at Thursday’s ceremony praised his enduring legacy of integrity, exemplary leadership, and principled service, calling it an inspiration for generations to come.
