Monrovia, Liberia – August 2025 The Government of Liberia has officially kicked off its Tourism Development Projects under the AAID FY2025 program, signaling a renewed drive to boost the country’s tourism sector.
The Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), through its PSIP budgetary appropriation, launched several milestone projects over the weekend. The initiatives were symbolically handed over to the Liberia Renaissance Group (LRG)—formerly known as the Liberia Renaissance Construction Company—during a ceremony held at Providence Island in Monrovia, Montserrado County.
Speaking at the event, MICAT’s Deputy Minister for Planning and Development, Atty. Amy T. Malachi, expressed optimism about the transformation of Liberia’s tourism landscape. She emphasized that the projects are designed not only to attract international visitors but also to promote domestic tourism.
“Tourism is not just about bringing foreigners into our country; it is about creating an appreciation for our own heritage and natural beauty,” she said.
Deputy Minister Malachi stressed the importance of sustainable tourism, noting that the projects aim to protect Liberia’s environment while creating economic opportunities for local communities. She underscored the government’s commitment to involving community stakeholders in the planning and implementation process.
As part of this commitment, MICAT announced training programs for community members, focusing on hospitality, cultural heritage, and conservation. These initiatives are intended to equip Liberians with the skills needed to fully participate in and benefit from the growing tourism sector.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MICAT and LRG, reinforcing the partnership needed to ensure the projects’ success. Assistant Minister Norris praised the effort, stating, “Together, we can reshape perceptions of Liberia as a tourist destination and highlight what makes us unique.”
The government believes these projects will not only strengthen Liberia’s economy but also instill national pride, laying a sustainable foundation for future tourism growth.
