Liberia Makes Historic First Appearance at Davos as Foreign Minister Nyanti Leads High-Level WEF Delegation

Liberia has marked a historic milestone on the global stage as its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, leads the country’s first-ever official delegation to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, taking place from January 19–23, 2026, in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.

The high-level delegation includes the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, and the Chairman of the National Investment Commission (NIC), Mr. Jeff Blibo. Liberia’s participation at WEF Davos underscores the nation’s rising international credibility, sustained reform efforts, and renewed positioning as a reliable partner in global economic and investment engagement.

Under Minister Nyanti’s leadership, the delegation is advancing Liberia’s economic diplomacy agenda, strengthening strategic international partnerships, and promoting the country as an emerging destination for responsible and sustainable investment. The joint presence of senior officials from foreign affairs, finance, and investment institutions reflects a coordinated, whole-of-government strategy to elevate Liberia’s profile within the global economic landscape.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the Liberian delegation will hold engagements with global policymakers, development finance institutions, investors, and corporate leaders. These discussions will focus on Liberia’s macroeconomic outlook, ongoing fiscal and governance reforms, national development priorities, and expanding investment opportunities, with a strong emphasis on job creation and inclusive economic growth.

As part of the official program, Foreign Minister Nyanti will deliver opening remarks at a senior-level roundtable titled “The Future of Liberia: Global Partnerships and Economic Diplomacy.” The event is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Foreign Policy magazine and is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Financial Times House (Hotel Parsenn) in Davos. The roundtable will convene 15 to 20 high-level participants, including global investors, multinational executives, and representatives of leading development finance institutions.

Finance Minister Ngafuan is expected to present a keynote address outlining Liberia’s progress toward investment readiness, priority reform initiatives, and opportunities across key economic sectors. The discussions will also highlight Liberia’s growing international stature, including its historic election as an incoming non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, and the broader implications for regional stability and global cooperation. These themes will be further examined during a panel discussion featuring Minister Nyanti, Minister Ngafuan, and NIC Chairman Blibo.

The 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum is being held under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue,” amid heightened global uncertainty driven by geopolitical tensions, economic pressures, climate risks, and rapid technological change. The Forum serves as a trusted platform for leaders to engage in frank dialogue, build strategic networks, and pursue cooperative solutions to shared global challenges.

Nearly 3,000 participants from more than 130 countries are expected to attend, including approximately 400 political leaders—among them nearly 65 heads of state and government—as well as about 850 chief executives and chairpersons of major global corporations.

Liberia’s inaugural participation at WEF Davos, led by Foreign Minister Nyanti and supported by Finance Minister Ngafuan and NIC Chairman Blibo, reaffirms the country’s commitment to proactive global engagement, strengthening investor confidence, and pursuing a unified national approach to economic diplomacy aimed at attracting partnerships, creating jobs, and driving inclusive growth and long-term development.
