Monrovia, Liberia – September 3, 2025 – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has launched a landmark internal drug testing program aimed at strengthening discipline, integrity, and professionalism within the institution.
On Monday, September 1, 2025, the Africa Union Trading Company, Inc., in collaboration with the LDEA Interim Leadership, carried out comprehensive drug tests on more than 70 officers and staff members at the Agency’s headquarters in Monrovia. The exercise began with the three interim directors and extended to sectional heads, senior officers, and junior staff.
According to the results released, every employee tested in this first round was cleared of any illegal substance use. The LDEA described this outcome as a positive reflection of the agency’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free workforce as it intensifies its fight against narcotics across the country.
“This exercise is not a one-time measure,” the Interim Leadership emphasized. “It is part of a broader strategy to ensure that every officer of the LDEA upholds the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.” Officials further announced that random drug tests will be conducted periodically to reinforce accountability and sustain public confidence in the agency.
The testing program will not remain confined to headquarters. Over the coming days, the initiative will extend to other parts of Montserrado County before rolling out nationwide to cover all 14 remaining counties. The aim, according to the agency, is to establish a consistent, countrywide system of accountability within the LDEA.
The Africa Union Trading Company, Inc. and the LDEA jointly reaffirmed their commitment to building a disciplined, drug-free workforce, which they stressed is vital to ensuring effective law enforcement and protecting Liberian communities from the scourge of narcotics.
