Paynesville, August 7, 2025 – The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has temporarily suspended its live coverage of the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press briefings, citing financial challenges.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by LBS Director General Eugene Fahngon, who explained that budgetary limitations had forced the state broadcaster to take this cost-saving measure. “We are facing serious financial constraints, and this decision—though difficult—was necessary,” Fahngon said.
LBS has been broadcasting MICAT’s weekly press briefings live on Tuesdays and Thursdays via radio, television, and digital platforms. The temporary suspension will remain in effect as discussions continue between LBS and MICAT to develop a sustainable funding arrangement.
Fahngon expressed optimism that a resolution would be reached soon and encouraged both public and private entities to engage LBS for paid media services such as advertisements, press conferences, live event coverage, and special programming through its business office.
