Hon. Smith Slams Sen. Joseph as Disloyal, Says CDC Built His Political Career

January 13, 2026, Monrovia, Liberia-Following Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph’s recent public assaults on the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), former Montserrado County District #2 Representative Jimmy Smith has harshly criticised Joseph, accusing him of political duplicity and betrayal.
Speaking at a press conference over the weekend at his home in Jacob Town, Hon. Smith voiced his “deep disappointment” over remarks made by Senator Joseph against the CDC, which he claims was crucial to advancing Joseph’s political career.

Senator Joseph benefitted much from the party before defecting, according to Hon. Smith, who led the House Committee on National Defence, Security, and Intelligence during the 54th Legislature and was a member of the CDC ticket from 2018 to 2023.
Smith told reporters, “I am shocked by Senator Joseph’s betrayal after depleting the CDC for several years.” “I hope his acts have taught the party a lesson. These are the same individuals that worked within the CDC to sabotage us.

The comments made by Senator Joseph in early August 2025 during an appearance on Spoon Talk, a well-liked late-night Liberian radio and internet television program, are followed by those made by Hon. Smith. Joseph accused senior CDC officials and former President George Manneh Weah of corruption and poor administration during the interview.

Smith claims that it is politically dishonest for someone who rose through the CDC’s ranks to suddenly publicly denounce the same organisation that gave him leadership chances and national importance. Deep internal differences and unsolved grievances within Liberia’s political landscape are revealed by the discussion, which exposes lingering tensions inside the previous ruling party as important players continue to trade charges following the CDC’s loss of power.
