Monrovia, Liberia — October 27, 2025 — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia has taken a significant step toward strengthening its institutional capacity by certifying a group of employees who completed a two-day training on Resource Mobilization and Donor Engagement.
The training, held on September 9–10, 2025, aimed to enhance the participants’ ability to secure and manage donor partnerships, a critical skill for supporting the EPA’s various environmental programs and initiatives. The event marks a continued effort by the agency to equip its staff with the necessary tools to better navigate funding and donor relations, which are vital to the successful implementation of the EPA’s environmental goals.
At the certification ceremony, held in the Executive Director’s conference room, Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, Executive Director of the EPA, praised the trainees for taking part in the capacity-building program. He emphasized that the new knowledge and skills would not only benefit the individual employees but would also contribute to the overall effectiveness of the institution.
“Knowledge is power,” Dr. Yarkpawolo said. “The skills you have gained will help improve not only your personal efficiency but also the overall performance of the institution.”
Mr. E. Jerry Togba, Assistant Director for Training, formally handed the certified trainees over to the agency’s management, expressing his appreciation for the leadership’s commitment to staff development. He underscored the importance of such initiatives in building a stronger and more capable institution that can deliver quality services to the public.
“These capacity-building initiatives are vital for strengthening our institutional capabilities and ensuring that we can deliver better service to the people of Liberia,” Mr. Togba noted.
One of the trainees, Ms. Jessica Jimmy, shared her personal experience from the training, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity. She highlighted how the training had broadened her professional perspective, especially in the areas of resource mobilization and donor engagement.
“Learning about resource mobilization and donor engagement has widened my perspective as a professional,” Ms. Jimmy said.
The training and certification program is part of the EPA’s broader effort to build the competence of its workforce. The agency aims to enhance its ability to implement environmentally sustainable programs across Liberia, ensuring that its staff is well-equipped to manage and mobilize resources effectively for critical environmental initiatives.
Through these efforts, the EPA hopes to not only strengthen its internal capacity but also contribute to the advancement of environmental protection across the country.
