Bishop Quire Commissions Interim Young Adult Leaders, Urges Recommitment and Reconciliation in UMC

Monrovia, Liberia – The President of the United Methodist Church (UMC), Liberia Annual Conference, Bishop Samuel J. Quire, has officially commissioned the interim leadership of the United Methodist Young Adult Fellowship (YAF), calling on the new leaders to recommit their lives to God and embrace the sacred responsibility placed upon them.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at the Lott G. Matthews United Methodist Church, Bishop Quire urged the newly inducted leaders to take their divine calling seriously. He emphasized that their first responsibility lies with God, who has called them to serve and lead His people.

“The time has come for you to truly dedicate yourselves to the work of God. He is about to do something great through your leadership,” Bishop Quire declared. “This is not just a position; it is a ministry of impact and transformation.”

The Bishop’s message struck a tone of hope and spiritual revival, highlighting a new season for the young adult wing of the church. He called on all United Methodists to support the new leaders as they prepare to advance the mission and vision of the church among Liberia’s youth.

Speaking on behalf of the interim leadership, YAF Interim President Winston Varwulu expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them by the church hierarchy. He pledged to serve God faithfully and work with fellow young adults to rejuvenate the fellowship and expand its reach.

“We assure you, Bishop Quire, and the entire United Methodist Church, that we will work diligently for God,” said Varwulu. “Our goal is to strengthen the fellowship and draw more young people into the service of God.”

In an appeal to former members, Varwulu called on United Methodists who had left the church to return, stressing that the doors of the church remain open and welcoming.

“Let us come together to rebuild God’s kingdom for His glory and honor,” he said. “The arms of the church are open wide to receive those who may have strayed, just as the Father received the prodigal son.”

In a broader message during the event, Bishop Quire also addressed concerns surrounding recent divisions and challenges within the United Methodist Church. He reassured members that the church remains stable, compassionate, and open to reconciliation.

“We must remain unshaken by the things happening around us,” Bishop Quire stated. “The dust will settle. The United Methodist Church remains a father to all — even those who leave and choose to return.”

He emphasized that the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation should guide the actions of all believers, reminding them of Christ’s sacrifice to reconcile humanity to God.

“I urge every member of this congregation and across Liberia to open their hearts to those who wish to come back. Let us welcome them as Christ welcomed us,” he said.

The commissioning of the interim Young Adult Fellowship leadership comes at a pivotal time as the UMC navigates internal shifts and seeks to rejuvenate its various ministries. The new leadership is expected to serve temporarily until official elections are held.

As the Liberia Area Conference looks ahead, the call to recommitment, unity, and spiritual growth remains central in Bishop Quire’s message — one that resonates not only with the young adult fellowship but across the entire denomination.
