Monrovia, Liberia – The All Liberia Coalition Party (ALCOP) has expressed strong support for the nationwide protest against the growing drug problem in Liberia.
In a statement released today, ALCOP called the drug situation a serious threat to national peace, stability, and public health. The party is urging the government to take urgent action against what they describe as a “drug pandemic.”
ALCOP’s Political Leader, Hon. Lusine Kamara, is asking the Government of Liberia to declare the drug crisis a National Emergency. Hon. Kamara believes this move will allow security forces to act more effectively and work together to fight drug trafficking and abuse.
“No one or family is safe if drug users are in your neighborhood or community,” Hon. Kamara said. “We need to fight this from the ground up.” Hon. Kamara stressed that tackling drug abuse is a top priority for ALCOP and called on all Liberians, no matter their background or political views, to join the fight.
Besides tougher action against drug traffickers, importers, dealers, and users, ALCOP also wants more rehabilitation centers built and existing ones improved. They believe helping current drug users recover is key to breaking the cycle of addiction.
“A strong and caring approach to treatment is just as important as strict enforcement,” Kamara added. “We need to heal our communities while we fight this problem.”
