LICPA Teams Up with LRA to Boost Skills Ahead of Liberia’s VAT Launch

Monrovia, Liberia – August 5, 2025: The Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) has partnered with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) to prepare the country for the upcoming Value Added Tax (VAT) system. On Tuesday, LICPA members joined the launch of a three-day VAT training program in Monrovia, designed to build the skills of tax professionals and key stakeholders.

Running through Friday, August 7, 2025, the training is a key step in moving Liberia from the current General Services Tax (GST) to a VAT system that aims to be more efficient, clear, and in line with global standards.

Strong Support from Leadership
At the opening, LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah encouraged everyone to fully engage in the training, stressing their important role in making the VAT rollout smooth and successful.

“This is a major change for Liberia’s tax system. We ask all participants to work closely with the LRA to ensure this transition benefits all Liberians,” Jallah said.

This training is part of a larger partnership between the LRA, LICPA, and international experts to promote sound fiscal management and technical excellence in Liberia’s public finance system.

As the training continues this week, LICPA and the LRA remain focused on making sure Liberia is ready to implement VAT and that the reform brings real benefits to people and the economy.
