Zubah Town, Du-Port Road — A 17-year-old girl identified as Naomi was rushed to ELWA Hospital on Wednesday after reportedly ingesting Clora, a household cleaning chemical, in an apparent suicide attempt following an alleged physical assault by her mother.
Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred after Naomi’s mother allegedly beat her over the misplacement of the family’s house keys. According to neighbors, the teenager later locked herself inside her mother’s bedroom, where she remained for more than four hours.
Concern grew within the community when Naomi did not come out and failed to respond to repeated calls. Alarmed residents eventually forced entry into the house by breaking a window, only to discover the teenager unconscious inside the room.
“She was lying there and not responding at all. We knew something was seriously wrong and had to move fast,” one neighbor said, recalling the tense moments before Naomi was rushed for emergency medical care.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and renewed discussions about domestic discipline, child welfare, and the urgent need for stronger family and community support systems.
