Monrovia, Liberia ( July 12, 2025) – The Liberia female U-16 basketball team kickoffs its journey in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 U16 Afrobasket qualifiers on Friday at the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville City, where the girlsโ team faced a tough opponent in Ivory Coast.
Despite demonstrating resilience and determination, the Liberian team was decisively defeated by the Ivorian side, concluding the match with a 79-46 scoreline.
The competition features top youth U16 AfroBasket (boys & girls) team, from five West African nations, host Liberia, Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Togo all battling for a chance to qualify for the 2025 U16 Afrobasket Championship in Kigali.
Competition resumes on Saturday as Liberia faces Benin in both the boysโ and girlsโ categories.
Only the top team from the Zone 3 qualifiers will earn a spot in the prestigious Kigali 2025 U16 Afrobasket Championship.
