𝐀𝐌𝐋 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐔𝐒𝐃$50𝐊 Nimba University to Boost Geological Education

Sanniquellie, Nimba County – July 18, 2025: In a bold step toward strengthening Liberia’s mining education and workforce, ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has donated USD $50,000 to Nimba University, reinforcing its commitment to education and local capacity building.

The substantial contribution, presented as part of AML’s annual support, is specifically targeted at enhancing the university’s Geological Program. The donation reflects the company’s long-term vision to develop a pipeline of skilled Liberian professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to the country’s mining and natural resource sectors.

“ArcelorMittal Liberia is proud to continue its support to Nimba University as part of our broader vision to invest in people and education,” the company stated in its official announcement. “Through this contribution, we are empowering young Liberians with the knowledge and skills they need to create a stronger, self-reliant future for both our industry and our country.”

The mining giant’s support comes at a time when Liberia is increasingly seeking to localize technical expertise in extractive industries and reduce dependence on foreign talent. The company emphasized that its investment in education is a strategic priority within its broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda, which also includes initiatives in community development and sustainable growth.

Officials of Nimba University welcomed the contribution, calling it a “significant boost” to the university’s educational infrastructure and technical programs. The donation will primarily go toward expanding the geological studies curriculum, improving laboratory facilities, acquiring training materials, and offering hands-on learning opportunities that align with real-world mining practices.

“This generous donation from ArcelorMittal Liberia not only validates our mission but strengthens our capacity to produce qualified graduates ready to take on roles in the mining sector,” said a senior university official. “It will go a long way in preparing our students with the right skills and knowledge to thrive in this important industry.”

The partnership between ArcelorMittal Liberia and Nimba University is part of a sustained engagement between the private sector and Liberia’s educational institutions to foster human capital development. AML has previously invested in scholarship programs, vocational training, and infrastructure projects across Nimba and other counties.

By targeting the Geological Program, AML is aligning its support with both local workforce development needs and its own industry requirements, ensuring that graduates are not only employable but also equipped to contribute to Liberia’s economic transformation.

The move has also been applauded by education advocates and community leaders who view private sector involvement as a critical component in filling the funding and capacity gaps faced by Liberian universities.

This latest donation signals ArcelorMittal’s intent to deepen its roots in Liberia—not just as a mining company, but as a long-term development partner. It also sends a strong message about the value of education in building a more inclusive and economically empowered society.

As Liberia continues to attract investments in natural resources, initiatives such as AML’s $50,000 contribution to Nimba University demonstrate the vital role of partnerships between industry and academia in creating a skilled, future-ready workforce.

With increased investment in education, particularly in technical and scientific fields, stakeholders are hopeful that Liberia can chart a path toward sustainable growth, driven not just by natural wealth, but by the expertise and innovation of its own people.
