Monrovia, Liberia- The Fula Progressive Union of Liberia (FPUL) strongly condemns the reported abuse of Madam Zainab Bah, a Muslim woman from Newport Street, Monrovia, by officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
On July 22, 2025, Madam Bah was allegedly beaten, stripped of her niqab, and arrested in front of her infant child. Shockingly, video footage shows police violently taking the baby from her and throwing the child to the ground. The child is now in critical condition.
Madam Bah was later detained overnight at the Gobachop Police Depot without access to medical care or legal support despite been arrested from central Monrovia.
This act is a clear violation of Madam Bah’s rights, including freedom of religion, protection as a woman and mother, and the safety of her child. It also reflects a dangerous level of police brutality and disregard for Liberia’s laws and human dignity.
FPUL Demands the Following Immediate Actions:
1. Suspension of all officers involved
2. Independent investigation into the incident
3. Urgent medical support for Madam Bah and her child
4. Public accountability and punishment of those responsible
5. Reform of police training, especially regarding treatment of women, children, and religious minorities
We call on the Ministry of Justice, the LNP Inspector General, the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, the Inter-Religious Council, and all civil society groups to act now.
This is bigger than one case, it’s about justice, accountability, and the soul of our nation. We stand with Madam Zainab Bah and all victims of police violence and discrimination.
Justice must be served. The world is watching.
