FUTA Vows to Elevate Student Experiences as NUGA Medalists Shine

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) recently celebrated its athletes who represented the institution at the 27th Nigerian University Games (NUGA) for the 2025/2026 session, hosted by the University of Jos. The university’s team, Team Aquila, delivered outstanding performances, bringing home multiple medals and making FUTA proud.

During the medal presentation, Dr. Alayode Ajibua, Director of Sport Services, lauded the university’s commitment to sports development, noting that enhanced sporting activities have positively engaged students and even contributed to campus security. He further highlighted that FUTA’s positioning in Zone C offers an opportunity to host NUGA in the future—a development long awaited by the institution.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, expressed immense pride in the athletes, coaches, and officials, emphasizing that their achievements elevate FUTA’s reputation. She reiterated the university’s dedication to deepening student experiences, promoting sports as a unifying factor, and fostering student welfare. The Vice-Chancellor also recognized the contributions of FUTA women who supported the team and encouraged ongoing engagement in health and wellness initiatives.

Medal-winning athletes included: Adebayo Japhet – Silver, 4x100m male relay, Ofor Chioma – Silver, 400m female relay, Ajileye Omotolani – 4x100m female relay, Oluwafemi Taiwo – Bronze, mixed doubles table tennis, Oyakhilome David – Gold, chess Oni Onileowo Temitola – Silver, judo

Their accomplishments demonstrate the impact of FUTA’s investment in sports and student engagement, with the university promising to continue nurturing talent and providing opportunities that enrich the campus experience.
