Monrovia – July 18, 2025 — The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Liberia has officially launched its Holiday Tech Camp (HTC) at the University of Liberia (UL), offering a month-long digital skills training for children aged 7 to 16. The camp, which runs from July 16 to August 16, is being held at the University Innovation Pod (UniPod) at UL’s Fendall campus in Montserrado County.
Designed for students in primary, elementary, and secondary schools, the HTC aims to bridge the digital divide by equipping young Liberians with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technologies such as coding, electronics, robotics, drone technology, virtual reality, 3D printing, cyber safety, and climate tech.
The camp is being facilitated by two tech experts from Cameroon, Nzometiah Nervis and Njita Arnaud Tenkan, both known for their extensive experience in working with children and teaching them emerging technologies in engaging and age-appropriate ways.
UNDP’s initiative underscores the urgent need to empower young Liberians with the digital competencies required in the 21st-century economy. “In today’s digital age, it is vital that children in Liberia are not left behind,” said UNDP representatives during the program launch. “This initiative prepares our youth for a future driven by science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and fosters essential life skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.”
The HTC also directly supports Liberia’s national development goals under the ARREST Agenda and contributes to key UN Sustainable Development Goals including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
A key highlight of the program’s orientation held Friday, July 18, was a tour of the University of Liberia and the Liberia UniPod, giving participants and their parents a firsthand look at the innovative tech hub designed to drive digital transformation across sectors.
In a unique and inclusive approach, the facilitators are also training trainers at the University of Liberia to ensure local capacity is developed for the program’s sustainability. This builds on UNDP’s broader digital education agenda in Liberia, including the Frontier Tech Bootcamp for youth aged 17–30 and the AI Master’s Program launched in partnership with UL earlier this year.
HTC is part of UNDP’s long-term strategy to scale digital education and innovation across the country. Though the camp begins in Monrovia, plans are in place to expand to other counties in future editions, making it a national annual initiative.
Key logistical arrangements have been made to support participating families: Drop-off and Pick-up Location: Invincible Park, Monrovia Daily Drop-off Time: 8:00 AM Pick-up Time: 5:00 PM Transportation: Provided between Invincible Park and the Unipod at Fendall Meals and all associated costs: Fully covered by UNDP.
Parents are required to commit to daily drop-off and pick-up at Invincible Park, ensuring secure and consistent participation.
As Liberia continues to confront challenges in education and youth unemployment, the Holiday Tech Camp is a timely and strategic investment in the country’s digital future. By engaging children early with advanced technologies and real-world problem-solving, UNDP and its partners hope to spark a new generation of tech-savvy leaders who can compete globally and innovate locally.
With programs like HTC, the vision for a digitally inclusive and empowered Liberia takes a tangible step forward—starting with its youngest minds.
