Kploh Chiefdom, Rivercess County February 2,2026— The Ruth Coker-Collins Development Foundation (RCCDF) has completed a three-day intensive training for 275 women in Kploh Chiefdom, aimed at boosting women’s economic independence through the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) model.
Participants were drawn from three communities: Zammie Town (106 women), Sand Beach (91), and Gborwuzohn (75). The training emphasized basic financial management, savings discipline, group lending, and the importance of collective effort in building sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, former Minister of Public Works and RCCDF Chief Executive Officer, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, reaffirmed the foundation’s focus on reaching underserved communities, particularly rural women and frontline health workers who often lack access to formal financial services. She encouraged the women of Kploh to fully embrace the VSLA approach to improve their income, support their families, and cushion daily economic shocks.
Madam Coker-Collins acknowledged that starting a savings and loan group can be challenging at the beginning, but praised the commitment and determination shown by the women during the training as a strong base for long-term community development. She noted that when women organize around savings and credit, they are better positioned to help their partners, invest in small businesses, and respond to family needs such as school fees and healthcare.
In her concluding remarks, she called on the women to remain united and to work closely together to strengthen their VSLAs, stressing that trust, transparency, and cooperation are essential for the groups to grow and benefit the wider community. She assured them that RCCDF will continue to stand with rural women as they build stronger, more resilient local economies.
