The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has added a fresh layer of modern comfort to its campus with the completion of new guest chalets at the International Scholars Lodge Complex, marking another push toward world-class university infrastructure.
The facility was formally handed over from the contractor to the university at a ceremony held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, within the campus precincts. In her address, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji said the expansion reflects her vision of a FUTA equipped with world-class facilities in every respect, offering comfortable and affordable accommodation to local and international guests, researchers, and visiting academics.
Professor Oladiji noted that the completion of the new chalets represents a significant milestone because it is the first purpose-built guest lodge facility in FUTA’s history; earlier guest accommodations were converted from older residential quarters not originally designed for that purpose. She stressed that the university has reached a point where it must deliberately prioritize high-quality, fit-for-purpose infrastructure to keep pace with its academic ambitions.
The Vice Chancellor thanked lead contractor Prince Sunday Oderinde, his team, and the project consultants for their attention to detail and for delivering aesthetically pleasing and functional buildings. She also charged Professor Helen Ogunsuyi, Director of FUTA Business Development Company (International Scholars Lodge), to take ownership of the facility and ensure it is properly managed and maintained.

Director of the Directorate of Physical Planning, Engr. Oladeji Boyinbode, described the inauguration of the new chalets as a milestone achievement for the Scholars Lodge Complex. He commended the Vice Chancellor and the technical team in Physical Planning for seeing the project through to completion, noting that the upgraded lodge will significantly enhance the comfort and overall experience of visiting academics, guests, and dignitaries hosted by the university.
Registrar Mr. Charles Adeleye called the day historic and expressed gratitude that the project was completed under Professor Oladiji’s leadership. He praised her as an asset to the university, highlighting her various accomplishments, including her selection as a member of the committee for Tertiary Institution TETFund Projects, and welcomed the fact that FUTA now has a dedicated, modern venue to host both local and international visitors.
With the new chalets in place, FUTA’s International Scholars Lodge is positioning itself not just as a place to stay, but as a statement about the university’s commitment to excellence, hospitality, and global academic engagement.
