The investigation into the mysterious death linked to Liberian economist Samuel Jackson took a new turn on the second day of police actions as authorities completed a reconstruction of the alleged crime scene and returned the suspect to detention.
Investigators from the Liberia National Police, including a team of forensic specialists, carried out what officials described as a detailed reconstruction exercise at Jackson’s residence in the Old Road community of Monrovia. The exercise formed part of the ongoing effort to establish a clearer timeline and physical understanding of events surrounding the death of Jackson’s wife.
Following the operation, officers escorted Jackson back into custody at the police headquarters as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released the official findings of the reconstruction process, but the procedure is considered a crucial step in verifying statements, examining physical evidence, and testing investigative theories.
During the exercise, prominent Liberian lawyer Sayma Cyrenius Cephus strongly defended the suspect, publicly declaring that Jackson is innocent and pledging to challenge any allegations in court if necessary. Cephus, a former Solicitor General of Liberia, said he attended the reconstruction to personally observe the process and ensure that investigative procedures were properly followed.
According to him, the defense team welcomed the reconstruction exercise and viewed it as part of the police’s professional responsibility. He noted that strict crime scene protocols were observed, including the use of gloves and protective measures to avoid contamination of potential evidence.
Cephus maintained that Jackson was initially invited by investigators as a person of interest and insisted that the legal battle—if one emerges—should ultimately be decided in the courtroom.
“The best place where I can fight is in the court,” he stated, emphasizing that the defense would scrutinize any conclusions reached by investigators.
Although Cephus indicated that he has not yet formally signed a legal contract to represent Jackson, he acknowledged providing legal guidance partly out of personal loyalty. He described the suspect as a friend and suggested that his involvement could be on a pro bono basis given the emotional circumstances surrounding the death.
He further stressed that Jackson himself is deeply shaken by the loss of his wife, describing the incident as a tragic and mysterious event that has left the suspect under significant emotional distress.
Another member of the defense team, Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo, also confirmed that the suspect has been cooperating with investigators. Dugbo disclosed that Jackson voluntarily handed over several personal items—including his mobile phone, his wife’s phone, and his laptop—to assist the investigation.
With forensic examination ongoing and the police continuing their inquiries, the case is drawing heightened public attention as authorities work to determine whether the evidence will ultimately support criminal charges or reveal a different explanation for the woman’s death.
